Denver-couple-Union-Station

Denver’s Union Station is an iconic landmark that was built back in the 1800’s. It’s a great location for portraits of couples. It’s always the first place that I take my couples when we’re doing a photoshoot in downtown Denver.

The outside has the iconic signage but inside the station has plenty of vintage vibes. The custom built columns and lighting keep the overall look from the early 1800’s. The benches were designed to replicate the look of the old train cars. The signage looks historic as well. Be sure to stop inside the Terminal Bar and grab some local brewed beer or a handmade cocktail made from local distilleries. It’s another great spot for photos that features lots of window light from it’s large windows.

I love shooting behind the station where the trains are located. You get a different perspective of the famous Union Station neon sign. The unique architecture and backdrops with the trains are great spots for photos.

The front of the station has the best view of the Union Station sign but it’s tricky to get the whole sign in the photo, even when taken with a wide angle lens. I like to have couples cross the street at 17th from one side to the other as they walk across Wynkoop street. You can capture the whole building and it’s great when the couples interact with each other as they’re walking across the street.

During the warmer months, the fountains are running which creates another nice backdrop for photos. I’ve yet to have a couple run through them but I’ll keep asking anyways. The old light poles are also great to include in the photos. I could spend an entire engagement session (60-90) minutes here because there’s so much variety to photograph.
