My favorite photo location for couples in Denver is Union Station, my top pick as a favorite Denver photo location for couples. Denver’s Union Station is an iconic landmark that was built back in the 1800s. It’s a great photo location for portraits of couples because of its beautiful architecture and vibrant atmosphere. Every time I take couples there for a photoshoot, it feels like we’re stepping into a timeless moment filled with history and charm. The blend of vintage and modern elements creates a unique backdrop that enhances the romantic mood of the session. Additionally, the station’s location in the heart of downtown adds to its allure, making it a dynamic spot for couples to capture their love story.

The outside has the iconic signage but inside the station has plenty of vintage vibes. The custom-built columns and lighting keep the overall look from the early 1800s, and it provides a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for capturing intimate moments. The benches, designed to replicate the look of old train cars, add a nostalgic touch that invites couples to sit and interact naturally. The historic signage, rich with stories, enhances the visual narrative of the photographs. Be sure to stop inside the Terminal Bar and grab some locally brewed beer or a handmade cocktail made from local distilleries. It’s another great spot for photos that features lots of window light pouring in from its large windows, creating a stunning backdrop for candid shots of couples enjoying each other’s company.
I love shooting behind the station where the trains are located. You get a different perspective of the famous Union Station neon sign, which has become a symbol of the city. The unique architecture and the backdrop of the trains provide an industrial feel that contrasts beautifully with the romantic nature of the couple. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mix different styles in one photoshoot, showcasing both the love story and the vibrant energy of Denver. This area offers a variety of angles and compositions that contribute to a diverse set of images, capturing the essence of the couple’s relationship amidst the historical setting.

The front of the station has the best view of the Union Station sign, but it can be tricky to get the whole sign in the photo, even when taken with a wide-angle lens. I like to have couples cross the street at 17th from one side to the other as they walk across Wynkoop street. This creates a dynamic shot where you can capture them in motion, interacting with each other as they stroll. It adds a candid feel to the photos, making them more relatable and genuine. The excitement of the bustling city around them enhances the overall ambiance, making each image tell a different part of their love story against the iconic backdrop of the station.

During the warmer months, the fountains are running, which creates another nice backdrop for photos. The sound of the water adds a pleasant ambiance, making couples feel relaxed and free to express their love. I’ve yet to have a couple run through them, but I’ll keep asking anyway for that perfect playful shot! The old light poles that line the station’s entrance also present great opportunities for artistic photographs. I could spend an entire engagement session (60-90 minutes) here because there’s so much variety to photograph — from the intricate details of the architecture to the candid interactions of the couples. Each corner of the station offers a new perspective and a fresh opportunity to capture the essence of love in a beautiful setting.

In conclusion, Union Station stands out as my favorite photo location for couples in Denver not only for its historical significance and architectural beauty but also for its vibrant atmosphere and the variety of opportunities it presents. Whether it’s the stunning interiors, the iconic neon sign, or the bustling streets nearby, every corner of this location tells a story. It’s a place where couples can feel at ease, allowing their personalities to shine through in the images. If you’re looking to create lasting memories and beautiful photographs in Denver, Union Station is the perfect choice.
Moreover, the surrounding area of Union Station is also filled with charming streets and parks that provide even more options for stunning photographs. The Riverfront Park, located just a short walk away, offers picturesque views and lovely green spaces, perfect for couples who want to incorporate nature into their shoot. Walking along the South Platte River, you can capture reflections of the skyline in the water, adding a unique element to your images. As the sun sets, the golden hour light creates a magical glow that enhances the romance of the moment, making it an ideal time for couples to share intimate moments and laughter, which I love to capture.
