Cheesman Park Wedding at Pavilion | Denver Botanic Gardens

DSCF9151 Enhanced NR 1

A Cheesman Park wedding has a way of feeling both effortless and cinematic at the same time. The pavilion’s white columns frame everything like a painting, the trees are massive and alive, and when the light drops in the evening, the city skyline appears behind it all like it was always supposed to be there. Hannah and Sean’s wedding was all of that — and then some.

The day started at Denver Botanic Gardens, just steps from the pavilion, where Hannah and Sean saw each other for the first time. There’s a Japanese garden tucked inside the Botanic Gardens that most people walk right past, and that’s exactly where we spent the first look. No crowd, no noise — just the two of them in a garden that felt like it belonged somewhere in Kyoto. Sean’s face when he turned around said everything.

From there, guests made their way to Cheesman Park Pavilion for the ceremony. If you’ve never seen a wedding happen under those columns, it’s hard to describe how good it looks. The circular floral arch — done by Honeycomb — was full of color: dahlias, ranunculus, garden roses in orange, coral, and yellow. It sat against the white stone and green trees like a photograph waiting to happen.

Hannah and Sean wrote their own vows. The kind that make the officiant laugh and the front row cry at the same time. Their guests were the kind of people who actually show up for a wedding — present, emotional, loud when it called for it. I barely had to move. The moments came to me.

Cocktail hour moved next door to Denver Botanic Gardens, which is one of my favorite transitions I’ve seen at a Cheesman Park wedding. Guests wandered through the gardens with drinks in hand while the string duo from Serenade Events played in the background. The sunflowers along the garden path were in full bloom. The golden hour light through the trees was doing something almost unfair.

Dinner was back at the pavilion — long farm tables set end to end in a U-shape, candles everywhere, Serendipity Catering running a flawless outdoor spread. The speeches were genuine and funny. The kids on the dance floor before anyone else even thought about dancing were a better preview than any DJ announcement. TH Entertainment read the room perfectly all night.

By the time the couple had their first dance, the sky behind the pavilion had turned deep blue and the city lights had come on. It’s the kind of backdrop that makes you want to slow down and actually look at what’s in front of you — which is exactly what Hannah and Sean did.

This is what I love about a Cheesman Park wedding. It doesn’t need much. The park does the heavy lifting, the pavilion provides the frame, and when you have a couple who are genuinely excited to be there with their people, everything else falls into place. My job is just to stay out of the way and not miss anything.

Hannah and Sean — thank you for letting me be there. This one stays with me.

If you’re planning a Cheesman Park wedding or a celebration at Denver Botanic Gardens and looking for a photographer who will document it honestly — without turning your day into a production — I’d love to hear from you.
